smart money

Creating SMART MONEY is one of the most important things we can do to restore balance and harmony in this world.

Think about it... do dollars, euros, yen, etc. help you choose items that are healthy and useful to the continuation of life? Do they help you choose items that are made by happy people as opposed to unhappy enslaved people?

No, today's currencies do not do this... In fact, they obscure all relationships that have to do with manufacture, transport and even proprietary interests... They obscure environmental depletion costs as well as sustainability issues.

Dollars, euros, yen, etc. create a near perfect opaque shield between the consumer and the processes whereby a particular product comes to market.

Is it any wonder that we remain blithely unaccountable for our actions which continue to plunge us into the depths of toxic refuse? And tear from underfoot all the vital systems upon which life depends?

How can we change this? How can we develop currencies that provide transparencies so that we can see the all the costs, sustainability issues and social factors involved in production?

Make Smart Money.

Some basics to making money that works...

toward understanding, health and happiness for all.

Money facilitates exchange but it must not facilitate an exchange that does us more harm than good. Most often we are not attempting to expend our exchange currency to bring greater unhappiness into our communal or personal lives so...

...we will price our goods and services to reveal the actual impact of our purchasing decisions.

In order to do this, we will have more than one valuation in each transaction:

When we buy our books we will pay for them with CEL, E, T, DRU, I, H, and O. Naturally, we can do this easily if we continue to use plastic to facilitate exchange.

Creativity, Effort, Labor -- CEL

to be cont.

Energy -- E

to be cont.

Transportation -- T

to be cont.

Depletion/Resource Utilization -- DRU

Here we account for the amount of virgin resource used such as metals, etc. Most recycled products would have substantially lower DRU prices.

Impact -- I

What's the impact of using the product?

Here we will see a difference between purchasing an electrical lawn mower (for instance) and a gas powered one... where as, we may not have seen such a great difference in DRU.

Habitat -- H

What we will value is the use of naturally occurring resources, for instance -- goods that are foraged and then sold as opposed to goods that require clearing of habitat to be produced.

Organization and Overhead -- O

The amount of social organization required to provide the product or service. This cost reflects the principal of potentiality, freedom, spontaneity and the role of entropy. We must weigh the cost of controlling entropy, how this affects individual experience and expression and what the immediate and longer term impacts are on the health and response ability of the society.

This essay will continue with a discussion of how we might distribute our new transparent currency and the forms of social aggregration it will likely encourage.
